Meet the Nomads: Jaime Davila

Here’s my short interview with Jaime.

How did you discover your passion for travelling?

“I have always wanted to see the world but what started it all was a spontaneous trip to Los Angeles with a friend for a weekend. I found out that it is relatively easy to travel. Before that I always had the urge because as a kid I would spend my summers in Mexico and loved what a complete different world it was yet so close from home.”

What’s the most horrible experience that you’ve had on the road?

“Instead of going into detail here I’ll have you read this. Held at gunpoint in Monteverde.

What’s the best travel experience that you’ve ever had?

“Oh wow I could list so many, but I think the best are the times I am interacting with the locals. I love it when I am at a market eating and chatting away with them about the problems they may be facing or getting to learn more about the place Im at.”

What’s the biggest realization that you’ve got out of travelling?

“You MUST have PATIENCE. I used to be very impatient. Now that I have been traveling 3.5 months that has changed. I now am okay with things not going how they should. I’ve learned it’s part of life and everything will most likely work out in the end.”

“I do believe “everything happens for a reason” and know that all the choices I have made in the past have brought me to where I am today.”

What keeps you going? What keeps you motivated?

“What keeps me going is the endless opportunities that may be waiting for me at the next place I visit. Along with always being able to see and do something new every day.”

This is a silly and hypothetical one. If you would be given a chance to travel with a popular person or a celebrity, who would it be and why?

“Oh I think everyone knows who I am going to say… It would be KELLY CLARKSON hands down!!!”

Where’s your favourite place in this planet and why?

“Even though I have already fallen in love with a lot of other cities and towns I would have to say HOUSTON, TX! Yes home is my favorite place. It’s where my family & friends are and its were I have a million memories to one day go back too.”

What’s your best tip for newbie traveller?

“GO FOR IT… YOU WONT REGRET IT!!! It is scary as hell at first, but once you are on the road and learn how easy it is you will thanks your God you are doing this.”

What’s the funniest and silliest thing you’ve ever done while travelling?

“Oh wow… I think that would be givinga hand job on a chicken bus. I still crack up about it & can’t believe I even did it or even wrote about it.

What do you think about yourself?

“I think I’m the little boy that could. I had many obsticles stopping me from doing this and now I’m here and living proof that anyone can do it. I also think I am a very good human being and always caring about others and wanting to help when I can.”

“My blog is my medium to share MY story (even if they are crazy)! I want to show others that you can be GAY and travel the world. We can’t let fear hold us back from doing something that will make us happy. It’s also a tool I use to show people to just be happy. No matter what it is you wanna do be happy. In the end being happy is the only thing that counts!” – Jaime Davila of Breakaway Backpacker
