Meet the Nomads – Angel Juarez

Angel Juarez is the blogger behind one of the famous blogs in the Philippines, Lakwatsero.com. he’s one of the few blogs that I follow that showcases the richness of the Philippines marine resources.

If you’re interested in knowing more about beaches, off the beaten paths, beautiful islands and diving and snorkelling sites in the Philippines, then Lakwatsero is the best blog to visit.

Get to know more about Angel and visit him at Lakwatsero.

Here’s my short interview with Angel.

Meet the Nomads - Angel Juarez

How did you discover your passion for travelling?

“When I was a kid my dad brought me to Albay via the good old PNR. I also traveled with my parents to Leyte aboard a ferry. They occassionaly tagged me for bus trips to Pangasinan just to buy Lingayen’s “bagoong isda”. At my young age, I was already exposed to long travels and I loved it. When I started working and earning for myself, the whole new chapter of my life started. I love being on the road, the long rides and walks, discoveries and exploration. I believe I was born to be a traveler.”

What’s the most horrible experience that you’ve had on the road?

“When I lost my purse with my travel budget and ATM card in Matnog Pier enroute to Samar.”

What’s the best travel experience that you’ve ever had?

“Live aboard dive cruise in the Philippines Mecca of scuba diving – the Tubbataha Reefs.”

Angel Juarez

What’s the biggest realization that you’ve got out of travelling?

“In Palaui Island, while searching for the lighthouse of Cape Engano with Gael of Pinaysolobackpacker. We didn’t reach the lighthouse but it was a day of appreciation and realization, of friendship and survival. A reminder that the journey is as important as the destination.”

What keeps you going? What keeps you motivated?

“Knowing that someone follows my adventures and reads my blogs inspire me to keep on going. Their emails, comments and messages fuel me to travel, explore and discover more. It keeps me motivated knowing that somewhere, on the other ends of the world wide web, there are people who enjoy reading my narratives and seeing my stills.”

This is a silly and hypothetical one. If you would be given a chance to travel with a popular person or a celebrity, who would it be and why?

“Since you didn’t limit me to real person, I will choose the Little Prince to travel with. I want to go with him on his planet hopping, visit his small planet and see his flower, volcano and his fourty-four sunsets. I know I will learn far more from him than he from me.”

Angel Juarez

Where’s your favourite place in this planet and why?

“Aside from the underwater world, Sagada will always have a special place in my heart. Being an adopted son of Sagada, I consider it home. As cliche as it is, but still there’s no other place like home.”

What’s your best tip for newbie traveller?

“Never ever stop exploring because the road never ends :)

What’s the funniest and silliest thing you’ve ever done while travelling?

“Per advised of my Thai guide in Ayuthaya (who said that I can pass for a Thai), I pretended to be a local to save for entrance fees on temples.”

What do you think about yourself?

“I think I am weird, clumsy, funny and childish but can be serious when the circumstances need me to be :)

“Lakwatsero is a documentation, in stills and narratives, of my continuous chase for sunsets, waterfalls, virgin beaches, unspoiled dive sites and adventures throughout the Philippines and the world.” – Angel Juarez

Comments

  1. I first stumbled upon Angel’s blog when I was searching in Google for posts about Sohoton Cove in Bucas Grande Island. His writing style really fits my taste.

  2. Join the club with the clumsy people, Angel :D

  3. I’ve known Angel since 2008 and that time, there were only a few travel bloggers in the country. For some reason, I relate his name to Sagada and Camiguin hehe. I am really hoping that we’d be able to travel together this year. Nagkikita lang kami at nagsasama every Cinemalaya season although watching relevant movies in CCP is a good journey too :)

  4. One of the most humble, friendly, down-to-earth, and helpful people I know and I’m lucky I got to know this guy!

  5. Angel is cool and humble. i should say that he is one of the bloggers that travelers can look up to as a good model. site is also very informative.

  6. i went to palaui 2 days ago lang, at nakwento ng guide namin na meron ngang 2 turista na hindi kumuha ng guide. bumalik silang pagod na pagod. hehe
sabi ko naman, i think i know those people. sabi ko they went back and reached the lighthouse with flying colors. sa kanila ko nga nabasa ang super detailed instructions about palaui. =)

anyway, angel is one of the nicest and most humble traveler. siya na lang hindi nakakaalam na sikat sya. Krispy kreme ulit nextime, yes? =)

  7. i’m a fan of Lakwatsero.com then eventually consider him a friend kasi napakabait nya pala in person hehe. ibang klaseng byahero napakaasikaso, laging iniisip yung mga kasama nya hehe

    good luck Angel!

  8. Wow! Thanks for this Plif!

@Angel – Mabuti di ka pinagsalita kundi nahuli kang hindi ka talaga Thai… ahehehehe!!!

    Happy New Year! :)

  10. First met Angel at the bus terminal on our way to Palaui. No formal introductions were needed even if we haven’t really talked a lot online. He immediately treated me like a good friend. His blog is very informative and I agree, grabe yung mga diving experiences nya. Tama nga yung sinabi nina Gael & Chyng, andami nang napuntahan pero humble pa rin!
