Bogyoke Aung San Market is one of the most visited places in Yangon. It was built in 1926 and was once known as Scott Market. The market is included in Yangon City Heritage list and a must visit for everyone who go to this city.
I love visiting markets and even if I skipped some known tourists spots in a particular area, I always make sure to drop by to the market at least once during my entire stay. Local markets (even some tourists markets) never fail to amaze me. I’m always on the lookout for unique handicrafts which are locally made. I’m always looking at vegetables, fruits, and other food items that are not usually found back home. I don’t know why but it amazes me to know what kind of food locals eat in the places that I visit.
Bogyoke Aung San Market is one of those markets that I find very interesting. Although it’s very touristy and always packed with people, there are so much interesting handicrafts to be seen. Even if you’re not intending to buy any souvenirs, I highly suggest that you visit this market and take a look around. Also, buy a cup of freshly made Avocado or Strawberry Smoothie or Orange Juice, they’re very delicious and cheap too.
