London's Famous Market
1) The Backyard Market – Located in Brick Lane, this market has clothes, jewellery and arts / crafts. It is situated inside the historic Old Truman Brewery building, now home to many budding entrepreneurs and traders. Brick Lane is also home to some of the best curries in London!
2) The Broadway Market – Revived in May 2004, this market began life in 1900 with a jellied eels shop! It is now a vibrant food market which is open every Saturday in Hackney. You can also visit the nearby Sutton House whilst in Hackney, a beautiful Tudor House.
3) Merton Abbey Mills – Pitching itself as London’s alternative market, this offers arts and crafts, live music and activities for all the family. The Wandle Industrial Museum is also close by if you want to learn about the history of the area.
4) Columbia Road Flower Market – This colourful market is in the East End and sells a huge range of flowers and plants. The barrow boys set up stall every Sunday, not one to miss! Just round the corner is Columbia Road Gallery so there’s plenty to see, do and buy!
5) Bermondsey Square – This is the place to track down antiques, especially if you head there early – traders set up their stalls at 4am! Bermondsey is also home to a Design Museum which holds great exhibitions.
6) Piccadilly Art Market – Every weekend artists adorn the railings of Green Park with their paintings. Head here if you want to buy a masterpiece! Green Park is also a great spot for a picnic on a sunny day.
7) Southbank Book Market – This is one of London’s hidden gems, located underneath the Waterloo bridge. For any literary enthusiasts, it’s ideal for browsing all types of books. You can also walk to the London Eye from here!
