Gokarna Mahadev Temple in Black and White

Gokarna Mahadev Temple is not usually part of any itinerary of most tourists which makes this a great place to visit for most independent travelers. There were almost no one in this temple when we visited except for a handful of local visitors. If you’re commutting from Thamel, just take a bus to Boudha and alight at Jorpati. Near the small market you’ll see parked commuter vans going to Gokarna. If you are not sure just ask locals in the area about the commuter vans going to Gokarna. It only cost around 20 Rupees to get here and approximately 15-20 minutes of travel time.

When we got to Gokarna Mahadev Temple, the ticketing office was closed and we just entered the temple. The structure of the temple is similar to the ones that you’ll see in the Durbar squares in Patan, Kathmandu and Bhaktapur. The intricate details were really amazing.

It was also serene and very quiet and at the same time very picturesque since you’ll see some nearby hills as well.

There’s a nice hotel not that far from Gokarna Mahadev which is located inside the Gokarna Forest Reserve. If you’re thinking of getting away from the hustle and bustle of Kathmandu for a short while check out Gokarna Forest Resort. There are wild deers that can be seen inside the resort as the wild deers usually visit the golf course area to feed at night.
