Chinese New Year in Bangkok

Chinatown is one of my favorite districts in Bangkok due to the abundance of delicious restaurants serving Chinese dishes. It’s also a great place to visit for avid shoppers as there are so many wholesalers located in Chinatown. I don’t usually stay near Chinatown whenever I’m in Bangkok but last February I opted to stay near Hua Lam Pong train station which is just around 5-10 minute walk from Chinatown and I was lucky that I got the chance to witness their Chinese New Year celebration.

The whole Chinatown is packed with tourists and locals and the streets were filled with food stalls, pop up shops, dancing dragons and lions and decorative statues of horses (2014 is the Year of the Horse). The temples were packed with devotees, some sections of Chinatown were also closed for vehicles to give way to the huge crowd of visitors and locals alike.

It was indeed a very festive day for everyone and a great place to hang out for avid street photographers and foodies as well as there were so many interesting subjects waiting to be photographed and there were huge selections of amazing dishes waiting to be tasted.

Here are some pictures taken during the Chinese New Year last Feb:
