How did you discover your passion for travelling?
“I’ve always enjoyed travel and visiting new places. I was a boy scout and did a lot of camping with my family and canoe trips in central Oregon. Once I was old enough to do road trips, I enjoyed them whenever I had the chance. I took a trip through Europe solo after college and ever since then I’ve had the travel bug.”
What’s the most horrible experience that you’ve had on the road?
“Driving through the California dustbowl for hours with no pit stops in the middle of summer with no A/C.”
What’s the best travel experience that you’ve ever had?
“Going to Maui for the first time was eye opening. There we discovered so many enjoyable things to see, do, and taste. But coming back the second time to get married was the most memorable so far.”
What’s the biggest realization that you’ve got out of travelling?
“My biggest realization I’ve had from travel is that you always need less than you think you need.”
What keeps you going? What keeps you motivated?
“Learning through new experiences is what keeps me going and motivated for travel. There is such a big world to explore out there. You could go back to the same place 100 times and have a different experience every time. The fact that there are so many places to be seen and experienced makes me excited to keep traveling.”
This is a silly and hypothetical one. If you would be given a chance to travel with a popular person or a celebrity, who would it be and why?
“Might seem silly, but Katy Perry, the musician. She is the kind of popular personality that appears like she’s always enjoying herself and having fun. She’s very colorful which I like, and I think she would be enjoyable to travel with, if just for a brief time. Of course, my popular wife is my favorite person to travel with!”
Where’s your favorite place in this planet and why?
“As much as I enjoy Portland, Oregon where I’ve grown up and been a resident of my whole life, I’m very ready for a change in climate. I’ve never been much happier anywhere on the planet than on Maui, Hawaii.”
What’s your best tip for newbie traveler?
“Plan your trip well, educate yourself about where you are going, make an itinerary, and take less than you think you need!”
What’s the funniest and silliest thing you’ve ever done while travelling?
“I’m a silly person in general. I do silly things all the time, mostly at home. Jumping in the ocean with our wedding clothes on in Maui was pretty funny, and silly, and a memorable travel experience for me!”
How do you fund your travels?
“So far we’ve funded by working full time, using credit, and accumulated travel miles, and getting comped for some activities in exchange for promotions.”
How do you keep yourself safe on your travels?
“Awareness of our surroundings and education about where we are going are some key factors to our personal safety when traveling.”
What do you think about yourself?
“I think I’m the kind of person that you’d enjoy meeting and talking to and sharing ideas with. I am proud of my carpentry skills and am humbled by the talent of those who have achieved greatness of skill in their given fields. I am quiet most of the time, but can be very talkative when there is something I enjoy sharing. I am introverted and detail oriented. I enjoy calming, thoughtful, passionate and joyful music. My patience grows every day. I believe I have ideas to share with the world and help to give through travel, education, creation, and joy.”
“AfterGlobe is about our journey as a married couple as we make life changing decisions to save money, get out of debt, sell all of our possessions, and follow our dreams to travel the world.” – Drew Evensen
