Meet the Nomads - Sam and Pete of Travelling King

How did you discover your passion for travelling?

“We have always loved travelling, taking trips to surrounding States in Australia now and then but It was actually on our honeymoon to Thailand in 2011 that we really fell in love with travelling. The excitement and adventure that a different country brought was amazing!”

What’s the most horrible experience that you’ve had on the road?

We recently travelled up to the Flinders Ranges in South Australia and had an incident with an Emu, It was horrible! you can read about it on our blog, but long story short, we literally had a “run in with an emu”

What’s the best travel experience that you’ve ever had?

“It’s a tie between seeing the incredible Wilpena pound from the Air and the time we got a free upgrade to a huge pool villa in Thailand! its hard to choose because they were such different experiences. floating silently above one of Australia most beautiful natural settings, or floating around in our own private pool in our 3 room villa (2 separate buildings!!).”

What’s the biggest realization that you’ve got out of travelling?

“That the world is a huge place! There is so much so see and not to take the small amount of holiday time for granted, even on your own country there is so much to see. If you go to a different country don’t be afraid to try new things, that is the whole point, if you are just going to go to “maccas” and KFC then you may as well stay home. Holidays are about living :D”

What keeps you going? What keeps you motivated?

“We aren’t like a lot of travel bloggers, we still work full time but make sure to make the most of our weekends and annual leave time. What keeps us motivated is the “next trip” the “next adventure”. We love doing and seeing new things. Life can be boring when all you do is work your 9-5 job!”

This is a silly and hypothetical one. If you would be given a chance to travel with a popular person or a celebrity, who would it be and why?

“Richard Branson because he always has the coolest toys and he might just take us to space!”

Where’s your favourite place in this planet and why?

“Thailand, for more reasons that I could list. We wrote an article about it recently – A few things we miss about Thailand. The friendly people, the incredible food(!!), the endless beaches, the warm weather… We could go on for days!!!”

What’s your best tip for newbie traveller?

“Do your research and always have travel insurance! People may not think that its worth it, but the smallest accident in a foreign country can blow out into something crazy and can cost a lot!”

What’s the funniest and silliest thing you’ve ever done while travelling?

“Not really silly but more funny.. I think.. Getting elephant kisses in Thailand from a baby elephant. It was so cute!”

How do you keep yourself safe on your travels?

“We do our research to avoid scams and always avoid dark and scary alleyways. I know its not ALWAYS true, but girls, try to travel in groups. Always tell people where you will be and how they can contact you. Simple things like keeping photocopies of your passports and documents so if something does happen to your originals (touch wood) you still have them to show your embassy.”

What do you think about yourself?

“Sam loves to talk and is very organised, loves to plan everything that will happen and research everything thoroughly, Pete is the opposite, he likes to take things as they come and not plan to far ahead, when it comes to travel, Sam is the one to take notice of.”

Meet the Nomads - Sam and Pete of Travelling King

“We are just a regular couple (well as regular as Sam can get) with regular (boring old) jobs but we absolutely love travelling and planning trips! When we travel, we try to do it well! We want to show the world that you can still work a 9-5 job, 5 days a week and still get the most out of your holidays. We focus on travel to Thailand and around Australia, from budget, Luxury and everything in between travel.” – Sam and Pete of Travelling King
