Victoria Memorial – A Must Visit in Calcutta

We never prepared any itinerary nor any plans when we flew to Calcutta, India. I don’t want to have much expectations and I just want to do the research as I go. On our first day in Calcutta, we immediately checked the internet for places to go and stumbled upon Victoria Memorial.

Victoria Memorial is around 20 to 30 minute walk from where we were staying. For those who hate taking long walks, you can always get a cab or a rickshaw to this place. Entrance fee for the garden is just 4 Rupees and to get inside he museum is 150 Rupees. It’s definitely cheap and definitely worth your money. Take note though that you’re not permitted to take photos inside the museum (we were told by the ticketing officer).

The park is huge and the memorial hall is equally massive not to mention gorgeous.

This is a great place to just chill and relax and to learn some bits of information about India’s history during the British regime.

Here are some pictures of Victoria Memorial:

Victoria Memorial is also a great place to spot local bird species and small animals. Here are some of those that I’ve seen in the park.

Best time to go would be in the afternoon to catch the sunset and see a beautiful reflection of the memorial in the lagoon.
