Mica Ivealis is the blogger behind Kaypacha Travels. I’ve been following her blog due to a lot of information about travelling to South America. Mica also takes a lot of nice pictures that takes you to the places she’s been to. I also love reading some of her misadventure that she shares on her blog. It keeps me informed on various stuff that I should be aware of when travelling.

Here’s my short interview with Mica.

Meet the Nomads: Mica Ivealis of Kaypacha Travels

How did you discover your passion for travelling?

“I think my passion for travel was passed down from my mother, who has done quite a bit of solo travel around the world. I used to go to Puerto Rico quite frequently as a child to visit family. But a trip to Peru in 2007 gave me a connection to a special place. Peru motivated me to keep traveling and to keep coming back.”

What’s the most horrible experience that you’ve had on the road?

“Last year traveling from Peru to Bolivia I was almost robbed or worse by a fake Police Officer in La Paz. I fought back and made it out alright. I would say the absolute worst was getting our stuff robbed in a ferry station in Belize. First and last time that happened. You live and you learn.”

What’s the best travel experience that you’ve ever had?

“Living in the Amazon for months in Peru. No electricity, on the river, listening to nature. It’s not for everyone but I enjoyed being disconnected and having more bugs than humans as companions. The sound of silence and water is under-appreciated.”

What’s the biggest realization that you’ve got out of travelling?

“Traveling has helped me discover that I am stronger than I thought. I survived a terrible previous relationship and through travel I realize if I can survive that, then I can sleep on a bus for 20 hours or not bathe for 2 days. It won’t kill me. I can do anything I set my mind to.”

What keeps you going? What keeps you motivated?

“I understand that we are only on this earth for a short period of time and I intend to make the most of my time here. I have so much left to explore. The planet is full of places to investigate and I want to be able to do as much as I can. I live curiously. It’s the only way for me.”

This is a silly and hypothetical one. If you would be given a chance to travel with a popular person or a celebrity, who would it be and why?

“I’d have to say Anthony Bourdain. He drinks, smokes, curses, and loves to eat. Just like me. He tells it like it is and so do I. We’d get along great.”

Where’s your favourite place in this planet and why?

“My favorite place in this planet (so far) is Peru & the Amazon. I experienced some truly amazing energy there. I’d go back tomorrow. And I will live there again soon.”

What’s your best tip for newbie traveller?

“Never go anywhere without toilet paper!”

What’s the funniest and silliest thing you’ve ever done while travelling?

“Not too sure it was funny at the moment but accidentally crapping on my boyfriend Mike is a pretty funny story nowadays. The silliest thing I’ve ever done was trust someone else to watch our bags. Never do this unless you are prepared for the consequences. Because it’s never the other person’s fault- only yours.”

What do you think about yourself?

“I’m crazy, I like swimming naked, talking about sex, drinking, eating copious amounts of food, and I curse way too much. Did I mention I love booty dancing and salsa? No seriously, I’m a happy person and I appreciate everything that happens to me. After all, life is one big adventure. I’m just trying to make it fun!”

Mica Ivealis, Kaypacha Travels

“KayPachaTravels was created to share travel experiences, travel & food photography, and tasty recipes created while living abroad. We’re also going to talk about volunteering and other mishaps that might make you slightly squeamish. Or happy that you can relate. We talk about solo experiences, and couples travel as well. Both equally exciting and slightly gross at times.” – Mica”
