David is the person behind one of the most popular and most successful travel blogs in Southeast Asia, Malaysia Asia Blog.
He documents his trip around the Southeast Asian region and you’ll find a lot of very useful information in his blog about places to visit and one thing that most readers often look for, where to stay. David also updates his readers with some nice travel deals around the region and hosts a variety of online contests as well. I suggest that you follow him by subscribing to his FB and Twitter.

Here’s my short interview with David.
How did you discover your passion for travelling?
“Ever since I left school in 1987, I took a 27 hour train ride from Kuala Lumpur to Bangkok for fun and that instantly got me started.”
What’s the most horrible experience that you’ve had on the road?
“Getting dead drunk and wasted in Tokyo in 1989, I spent 6 hours inside the subway moving from train to train as I was totally lost not knowing which way was home.”
What’s the best travel experience that you’ve ever had?
“Visiting Laos in 2008 just before the news came out that Laos was the #1 place to visit according to NY Times.”
What’s the biggest realization that you’ve got out of travelling?
“That people are so very different all over the world.”

What keeps you going? What keeps you motivated?
“My love for photography and coffee. I make it a point to try the local coffee anywhere I visit. Apart from learning about new cultures.”
This is a silly and hypothetical one. If you would be given a chance to travel with a popular person or a celebrity, who would it be and why?
“I guess it would have to be Nellie Huang of Wild Junket. I met her a few times and she’s so much fun!”
Where’s your favourite place in this planet and why?
“Right now it’s simply Sabah Borneo as there is so much nature and wildlife there. Who knows where the next one will be as it changes every few years for me.”
What’s your best tip for newbie traveller?
“Don’t try too hard. Go with the flow and always be yourself.”

What’s the funniest and silliest thing you’ve ever done while travelling?
“Hahaha! I once tried photographing transvestites during their work at night on the streets and got chased by one of them. What do you think I did? LOL!”
What do you think about yourself?
“Erm, I think I get along well with just about anyone. Even better if there’s beers involved. I’m quite sociable and easy to talk with therefore making it easy to meet people during my travels…. phew.”

“MalaysiaAsia is more of a travel-info-blog where I share my experiences and also travel related events with everyone. My focus is mainly on Malaysia and Southeast Asia. But having Malaysia-Southeast-Asia was too long so I shortened it. It was a bonus as I also travel around Asia at times so it fits in the title. A lot of attention is paid to my photography as pictures always make your article more appealing. Also I’m still on the Blogger Platform! lol.” – David Hogan Jr
