HouHai: Beijing’s Lakeside Dining and Party District

Hou Hai is on the east side of Nanluoguxiang and a popular hangout place for foreign and locals alike.

Boats in Hou Hai Lake

The area is full of restaurants and bars and what makes it popular is the stunning view of Hou Hai lake. Imagine dining, partying or having tea or coffee beside a lake.

There’s also an option to take a tour around the hutong areas surrunding Hou Hai. I did not inquire though how much it cost because I intend to stick on just paying for the major sights in Beijing. Alternatively you could walk around instead to save money and see the hutong neighborhood in Hou Hai.

Rickshaw in Hou Hai

A cheaper way to spend your day in Hou Hai is to bring your own snacks and drinks and sit on the available benches surrounding the area and observe local life.

If you have a few bucks to spare then you might as well treat yourself for a nice dinner of authentic Chinese Cuisine as the area is full of restaurants as I’ve mentioned before.

Starbucks in Hou HaiAnd Starbucks also found it’s way to this lakeside dining area.

The only downside of going to Hou Hai though is the abundance of annoying touts that you’ll meet as soon as you enter the area. There’s so many of them and it’s like saying “No” with one person to another every two minutes.

Bars in Hou Hai

Nevertheless, these people only bugs visitors around the clubs and bar area.

I prefer spending more time though in Nanluoguxiang than Hou Hai. But if you’re in Beijing, you might as well check it out.
