Flipnomad’s Top 10 Misadventures

10. I’ve never had anything stolen from my travels, but I forgot a lot of my stuff in hostels.

9. I organized a Boracay trip with my friends and got left by the ferry in Manila Port Area. I bought an air ticket and flew instead. It was my first plane ride.

8. I got sick for almost two weeks in Kathmandu during the H1N1 scare. I got paranoid that I have H1N1. Luckily, it’s just an ordinary Flu.

7. I went to Bolinao with my friends with almost no money. I almost pawned my watch just to be able to buy a bus ticket back to Manila.

6. I ate peanut butter sandwich for almost three weeks while traveling in Southwest China due to lack of money.

5. I got drunk in Hanoi once and slept on the streets because the hostel was closed and no one opened the door no matter how hard I knocked.

4. I rode a bike in Nha Trang side by side with huge trucks. I prayed so hard.

3. I woke up with a broken bone (smallest toe finger) and I didn’t know why and how it happened.

2. I got lost while biking in Northern Thailand and ended up in a National Park. I got scared of a possible encounter with a wild tiger or other wild animals.

1. I was held in the Chinese Immigration Office for three hours trying to prove that I am a Filipino. They were insisting that I were a Chinese citizen with a fake Filipino passport.

I found your Misadventure No. 1 quite amusing, particularly since I tried to pass as a Chinese in order to take a bus between Dunhuang and Korla on the Southern Silk Road. This bus passes by the Lop Nor region, where China tests its nuclear weapons and foreigners are expressly forbidden to traverse or enter. After 3 hours into the ride, I felt confident that I would succeed. However, I was found out by the assistant driver and thrown off of the bus.
